We provide services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy and the environment, and peace and security. The diverse expertise of our federal enterprise is in demand around the globe, with the German Government, European Union institutions, the United Nations and governments of other countries all benefiting from our services. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is our main commissioning party, but we also work with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.
All these commissioning parties place their trust in GIZ by working together with us to generate ideas for political, social and economic change, develop these into concrete plans and implement the envisaged change processes. Since we are a public-benefit federal enterprise, German and European values are central to our work. This makes us a reliable service provider that people can trust. Gender Equality in German Development Cooperation
Gender equality and the empowerment of women is a goal in its own right and at the same time a key to and enabler of sustainable development. At GIZ, gender equality is not just an obligation but a guiding principle and quality feature of our work.
The goal of GIZ’s Gender Strategy is to comprehensively promote gender equality – both within our partner countries, as well as throughout our entire company. We are committed to advocating women’s rights and realising equal opportunities for men and women, which contributes to the overall quality of our work.
We take a twofold approach to promoting gender equality in our partner countries: firstly, we implement projects that specifically aim to reduce discrimination and inequality; secondly, we promote equality by mainstreaming gender at all societal levels and within different sectors. By taking into account the different situations and concerns of women and men, we help to eliminate gender-based socio-cultural and structural inequalities, as well as discrimination.
By promoting gender equality, we contribute to the sustainable development of our partner countries, and to overcoming the structural causes of poverty and of social and political instability. We work on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
